Titans guard Amano received multiyear contract

The Tennessee Titans made an announcement Wednesday that they have agreed to a multiyear contract with veteran guard Eugene Amano, who is a key piece to the team’s offensive line and started 41 games in his past six NFL seasons.




Over the last two years the Titans’ offensive line has ranked second in the league in rushing yards (4,791) and is tied with the Indianapolis Colts for the fewest sacks allowed. For last year only, the offensive line paved the way for running back Chris Johnson to become just the sixth player in NFL history to gain 2,000 yards in one season and became the first NFL team to allow 15 or fewer sacks and average more than five yards per carry.

By signing Amano the Titans avoided losing him in free agent market as the guard was to become an unrestricted free agent March 5 if without contract. But in order to keep the team’s offensive line one of the best in NFL, the Titans should also sign veteran center Kevin Mawae, who is entering his 16th NFL season and will also become an unrestricted free agent March 5 if without contract. However, the center has said that he does not expect to wear back the Titans jersey as the team seems also weighing backup center Leroy Harris.

Titans RB Johnson made it to 2,000

The Tennessee Titans won Sunday’s season finale by beating the Seattle Seahawks 17-13, and their running back Chris Johnson made it to rush for 2,000 yards in a season, becoming the sixth player in NFL history to have that achievement.

Johnson ran 36 times—three short of Earl Campbell’s franchise record set in 1981 against the Seahawks-for 134 yards and both of the touchdowns for the Titans (8-8) against a Seahawks defense that hit him hard and was determined to stop him from making history on it.

Johnson, who is in his second year of playing football in NFL jersey, ran right, cut back inside and jumped over a teammate for a 4-yard gain early in the fourth quarter, thus joining Eric Dickerson, Jamal Lewis, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis and O.J. Simpson in the 2,000-yard club. And if not a holding penalty moments earlier, Johnson would have set an all-time rushing record.

Titans CB Finnegan questionable for playing against Patriots

After missing another day of practice on Friday with a hamstring injury, the Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan will be listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.




The injury occurred on Sept. 28 when the Titans played against the New York Jets. After doing some limited work on Oct. 8, the cornerback has not taken any practice.

Other questionable players include starting safety Michael Griffin and defensive back Vincent Fuller. Griffin also missed Friday’s practice with a neck stinger, and Fuller returned to practice after forearm was broken. He has yet to be cleared for contract.

Starter out for Sunday game is starting cornerback Nick Harper, who broke his forearm, too. Rookies Jason McCourty and Ryan Mouton would play in Harper’s position again this weekend.

Titans coach Fisher stick with using Collins as starting QB

While fans are calling on Facebook and Twitter for change, the Tennessee Coach Jeff Fisher did not think it necessary to switch starting job from veteran quarterback Kerry Collins to Vince Young.




Fisher said Monday the difference now is the Titans won 13 games with Collins in 2008, while they hadn’t won a game with Young when the switch was made in 2006.

“Kerry’s not the problem,” Fisher said. “Kerry’s making plays and putting the ball where it needs to be put. I’m not pleased with the interceptions, but other than that going back over the last few weeks, Kerry’s made some great throws. We just need to play better around him.”

Starting only one game in 2008 season, Young lost his starting job to Collins. Although Fisher has said that Young would be the franchise’s starter of the future, the coach had no plan to give him the job in near future. Fisher insists Collins is their best chance to win a game.

Titans’ receiver Chris Davis charged with DUI

The Tennessee Titans receiver Chris Davis was charged with DUI when the Titans traveled to Dallas to play the preseason game against the Cowboys on Friday.




Davis is recovering from a hamstring injury and did not travel with the team to Dallas. But it seemed that he did not take the injury serious enough. Early Friday, he was stopped by police for speeding in downtown Nashville. Then the officer found man smelled of alcohol and his eyes were watery. So he asked the NFL player to have a breath alcohol test. The result was 0.11, much higher than the 0.08 level of intoxication in Tennessee.

By so far, there has been no comment from Davis’ agent David Butz, and the Titans replied n an e-mail that the team has been informed of the situation and was gathering facts to make further decision.

Titans plan to wear No. 9 decal this season in honor of McNair

Beginning from this weekend’s Hall of Fame Game against the Buffalo Bills, the Titans have been ready to wear a No. 9 decal on their helmets in this season’s games. They do so in honor of slain former quarterback Steve McNair.




The Titans’ decision has been approved by the league according to NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy’s statement on Thursday. He said that it was appropriate for the Titans to memorize McNair in this way. McNair,who was killed July 4, played 11 seasons with the Titans and led the team to its only Super Bowl appearance. McCarthy said Titans coaches and sideline personnel also will have the option to wear a No. 9 lapel pin.

Agent Rosenhaus plans to negotiate a long-term deal for TE Scaife

While TE Bo Scaife is ready for playing with the Titans as their franchise player this fall, his new agent Drew Rosenhaus is ready for negotiation on a long term deal for the tight end.




Scaife has just switched to Rosenhaus recently. The latter has a history of negotiating big contracts for his clients, including injured Willis McGahee who signed a lucrative rookie contract and Kellen Winslow who signed a six-year contract for $36.1 million, the largest deal for a tight end in NFL history. So he is really an attractive agent to those who want to put on cleveland browns jersey.

Scaife's current one-year tender will pay him $4.46 million in 2009, which is already the average salary of the five highest-paid tight ends in the NFL. Rosenhaus said that he will try best to work a deal after the season.

Collins is the best choice of Tennessee Titans QB

Since Kerry Collins took over for Vince Young early in the 2008 season, he has been considered a team leader in the Titans. Collins walks into camp on the first day and has command of the huddle from the start. That puts an end to any sort of distractions.




NFL teams that head into camp without controversy at the quarterback position usually hit the ground running. The offense is installed, the players know who their unquestioned leader is and a team can start to form on those hot, muggy August days on the practice field. The way the Titans play football is good and Collins is the best choice for the job. He has the arm strength to throw the ball with anyone in the league, and now that the Titans added some talent and depth at receiver with Nate Washington and rookie Kenny Britt. The Titans is still led by its attacking defense, but with Collins under center from day one, we can expect their offense to become more prolific.
